A comfortable haircut includes the way your hair is washed. At HIROGINZA PREMIUM BARBER SYDNEY DYMOCKS, you can choose between a traditional Japanese seated shampoo with a forward rinse and a reclining backwash. If either method is new to you, we will explain it before we begin.
Your two choices
Japanese style: stay seated while we lather and wash, then lean forward for rinsing.
Backwash: recline with your face upwards while we wash and rinse your hair.
Traditional Japanese style: a seated wash and a forward rinse
For this option, we lather and wash your hair while you remain seated upright. You then lean forward towards the basin so we can rinse. You may hear this called a stand shampoo in Japanese barbering. The name describes the barbering technique; you do not stand up for the wash.
It is an option for guests who would like to experience this part of Japanese barbering, or who already enjoy a seated wash followed by a forward rinse. We will guide you through each step, so you do not need to know the routine in advance.
Reclining backwash: a face-up wash and rinse
If you prefer to lean back, choose our backwash. You recline with your face upwards for the wash and rinse. It is a familiar position for many salon guests and a choice for anyone who would rather recline than lean forward.
You do not need to choose the Japanese method to enjoy a Japanese barbering appointment. Tell us which position you prefer; your comfort is part of the service.
Which should you choose?
- Curious about Japanese barbering? Ask us about the seated wash and forward rinse.
- Prefer a face-up wash? Ask for a reclining backwash.
- Unsure about the position? Tell us before we start, and we can explain both options.
Our grooming booths have high partitions and individual curtains for visual privacy. Choosing the wash you feel comfortable with is another small way to make the appointment your own, whether you are visiting between meetings or taking some time at the end of the day.
Questions before your visit
Do I need to know the technical name?
No. You can simply say, “I would like to lean back,” or “I would like to try the Japanese seated wash.” We can explain the position before beginning. Please also tell us if a position does not feel comfortable.
Is shampoo included in Signature Grooming?
Yes. Our Signature Grooming Course includes consultation, haircut, shampoo, hot towel and facial shaving, shoulder and neck massage, and styling. See our current menu and appointment information.
Is this the same as a head spa?
These are two ways of carrying out your shampoo. A Japanese Shiatsu Head Spa is a separate menu option. If you would like to include one, ask us about the available service and time when booking.
