A beard brushed firmly downwards may look quite different when it is left to settle by itself. Before a hot towel shave or facial hair tidy, explain whether you normally brush it flat, comb it outward or leave it untouched. Those habits influence the finish you expect to recognise afterwards.
What to discuss with your barber
Ask to see the facial hair in your usual arrangement before you approve the final result. At home, avoid judging the shape immediately after repeatedly pressing it with your hands. Give it a moment to fall naturally. You are not asking the barber to force every hair into the same position; you are establishing which everyday appearance should guide the conversation and your own maintenance.
