The underside boundary of a retained beard can be designed to support its visible front shape. A very high line may shorten the beard's apparent depth; a lower line creates a different outline when the head turns. This deserves discussion before the surrounding hair is shaved.
Ask to see the planned boundary with your chin in a natural position, then with it lifted enough to view the underside. The two views answer different questions.
