Prefer Less Conversation at the Barber? How to Ask for a Quieter Visit in Taipei
HIRO GINZA PREMIUM BARBER 台北

Some days, you want to tidy your hair and grooming while keeping conversation to a minimum. Mentioning this before the service begins gives your barber a clearer idea of how you would like to spend the appointment. Here are a few specific requests you can discuss.

Less small talk, or more notice before the next step?

“I would prefer less conversation today” and “Please tell me before moving the chair” are different requests. You can mention either or both. For example: “I’d like to rest quietly today. Please still check with me whenever you need to confirm the haircut or a service.”

If you would like a heads-up before the backrest is adjusted, your hair is washed or a facial service begins, say so specifically. Discuss what can be accommodated before the appointment starts.

Keep the important decisions clear

Even on a quiet day, you still need to agree on how much hair to cut, which parts of your beard or eyebrows to keep, and which services you want. There is no need to leave these choices to guesswork just because you prefer less small talk.

If you need to explain a change during the service, ask the barber to pause before doing so. In particular, avoid suddenly turning your head or changing position during face shaving.

Speak up if something feels uncomfortable

Let your barber know if the water temperature, room temperature or seating position feels uncomfortable. If you would like a short pause, ask and discuss what is possible at that point. These practical exchanges are compatible with a preference for less conversation.

A private room does not mean a silent service: hairdryers and other service sounds will still be present. If you have specific needs around sound or how the appointment is conducted, check before booking whether they can be accommodated. Privacy is not a promise of soundproofing or complete silence.

A short request you can use

I’d prefer less small talk and a quiet moment today.
Please still check with me about the haircut and services as needed.
I’d appreciate a heads-up before the chair moves or the next step begins.
