Why the Temple Area Matters in a Fade
Sou (Japanese)

When most people look at a fade, they focus on the sides and back.

But one of the areas that can make the biggest difference is actually very small:

The temple area.

A clean transition around the temples can make the entire haircut look sharper, more balanced, and more intentional.

At HIRO GINZA PREMIUM BARBER, this is one of the details we pay close attention to when designing a fade.

What Is a Temple Fade?

A temple fade—sometimes called a temp fade—focuses the shortest graduation around the temples and sideburn area.

Instead of fading the entire side very high, we can keep more natural weight while creating a clean finish around the face.

The result can be subtle.

But that small detail can significantly change the overall impression.

Clean Without Going Extremely Short

Not everyone wants a full skin fade.

Maybe you want to keep some length around the sides.

Maybe you have a business hairstyle.

Or maybe you simply prefer a more natural silhouette.

In these cases, cleaning the temple and sideburn area can give you the freshness of a fade without dramatically changing the entire haircut.

The Front and Side Should Connect

The temple is where several important areas meet:

Your hairline.

Your sideburn.

The fade.

And the hairstyle on top.

If these areas do not connect naturally, even a technically smooth fade can feel slightly unbalanced.

This is why we look at the haircut from the front and side—not only directly at the fade.

Especially Important With Thick Hair

With thick, straight Asian hair, the sides can easily create unwanted width.

But simply cutting everything shorter is not always the solution.

Sometimes we keep strategic weight through the sides while making the temple area cleaner.

This creates contrast exactly where it is needed while maintaining a natural overall shape.

Small Details Create a Premium Finish

A fade does not need to be dramatic to make a difference.

Sometimes a subtle taper around the temples, clean sideburns, and precise detailing around the ears are enough to completely refresh a hairstyle.

That is the philosophy behind much of Japanese barbering.

Look closely at the small areas.
Then make the whole haircut better.

At HIRO GINZA PREMIUM BARBER, our Japanese barbers combine detailed clipper work, scissor techniques, and personalized consultation to design a fade that suits your individual hair and lifestyle.

Inside our private rooms at Raffles Hotel Arcade, we take the time to focus on those details.

Because sometimes the smallest fade creates the biggest improvement.
